Kristen Smith serves as director of clinical programs for GHS. She is a also senior consultant Fleming-Advanced Outcomes Design with offices in suburban Washington. Her residence is in Columbus, Ohio, USA.
After working five years as a physical therapist, Kristen earned her Master's in Allied Health Administration from the Ohio State University (OSU).
Since then, Kristen has managed business development and clinical operations for rehabilitation hospitals (both inpatient and outpatient) and skilled nursing facilities.
As the quality manager for Neurosciences at OSU Medical Center, Kristen was responsible for The Joint Commission Primary Stroke Center Certification, CARF accreditation, rehabilitation quality assessment and performance improvement, and data management within the OSU Neurosciences Signature Program.
She then spent five years as the Director of Rehabilitation for OSU's inpatient rehabilitation hospital, Dodd Hall, overseeing business development, case management, and quality.
After the OSU hospital system, Kristen joined Vibra Healthcare, a national system of post-acute care facilities. She served as Vice President of Quality and Rehab Clinical Operations where she collaborated in the development and implementation of pioneering outcomes and performance improvement systems.
Kristen is a surveyor for CARF (Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities) for medical rehabilitation inpatient and outpatient programs. She is also an active member of the American Physical Therapy Association and the American Medical Rehabilitation Providers Association (AMRPA).
She has presented at national conferences on topics related to business development and operational performance, documentation and coding strategies for compliance and medical necessity, use of outcomes information to drive clinical decision making, integrating outcomes into daily workflow, and the impact of healthcare reform on post acute care hospitals.
